SLR (Shimano Linear Response) is actually the brake technology, as opposed to the model name. It involves the use of a lighter return spring on the brakes in conjunction with a return assist spring in the lever and line cable housing. This results in a lighter feel and better modulation. The technology was first introduced in 1987 on the Shimano New 105 group and trickled over to the ATB groups.
