My Roubaix came with an SL-K compact crank set. About 6 weeks ago I took my bike in for a tune-up because of a strange noise from what sounded like the rear of the drive train. When I picked up the bike, the mechanic mentioned that the small chain ring was slightly bent. The noise seemed to be gone but after a week my chain started to drop to the inside...and the noise started coming back. I put the bike on the stand and could now see the bend in the chain ring...right behind the crank arm, it was bending towards the big chain ring so that the chain would ride up onto the top of the teeth and then fall off. I researched replacing the crank set with Ultegra, which would require a BB30 adapter...so the cost would be a few hundred dollars...so I opted to have the shop order and install a new FSA small chain ring for $50. I did one more ride while waiting for the part and it got even worse. In the small chain ring, I couldn't use the two lowest gears on my cluster without the chain spontaneously dropping. It made for a difficult and frustrating ride. Ultimately I realized that the sound I originally heard was from the chain line going out of whack and it just sounded like it was coming from the rear of the bike.

So...other than this problem, the crank set has been fine...but should a small chain ring bend after 5,000 miles? I don't think so but it was an easy and inexpensive fix.
