I have noticed that most of those on bicycles in my area, are older guys. BMX is one area where the young prevail .
Basically avoiding mixing it up with cars... even when BMXers go places to ride, they tend to do so on sidewalks and shortcut through parking lots and alleys... avoiding cars... there is a message there, about promoting cycling.
