Chainring can often go closer to 15,000-20,000 miles before the stop shifting reliably. Even longer with non-indexed systems.

I like to rotate chains, everything works better for me that way. I do every 500 miles or so. Keeps me from having the hassle of an otherwise good cassette with one bad cog.
