Interesting, saddlesores, that you say butterfly bars were too narrow for you. Trekking bars are the same thing, right? I just recently mounted some trekking bars made by XLC, and sold by Niagara Cycles. They're a nice light aluminum, but powdercoated black, lol, and the best part is, they're nice & wide, one of my most important considerations. They're actually a bit wider than the flat bars I replaced, and overall, probably the best (for me) bars I've ever tried. I'm using older but NOS Suntour 6-speed thumbies, with Tektro v-brake levers, and clamp-on grips, but the grips aren't as comfy as I had hoped they'd be. Everything else is perfect, especially the extra reach, on the more forward section. Obviously, multiple hand positions is the big selling point, and they're great for that. I just need to wrap some bar tape, & find some better grips. EDIT: Forgot to say, these were cheap too, like $15 or less.
