In Boston it was about 22F (5.5C) this a.m. Decided the streets were the better bet since the bike path is seldom plowed and salted and has so many drainage issues so it has lots of ice. The street route shortens my commute both because it makes the ride about 8m (12.8k) instead of 11m (17.7k) and my average speed is higher on the road.
It was a great ride in. There is one split in the road that I can usually anticipate being overtaken from behind and cut off, and today was no exception, but otherwise it was smooth sailing. The "door zone" was also an ice/snow zone so I had to move right into the road most of the time but traffic in many of these sections is only moving about 20mph (32kph) or less. I'd given myself plenty of time to get in today and ended up getting there early because the commute was so manageable. More snow forecast for tomorrow.
