The only practical workaround I've found is to let a page load and then quickly stop the rest of the loading that seems to go on sometimes for a looooong time. FWIW, I'm using a Windows 7 home version machine....with an abundance of processing power, and the latest version of Chrome as my browser. This generally happens only on this site, and I do visit plenty of others.
+1 to all of this. I'm using an almost brand new Windows 10 Pro at home an Windows 7 at work (of course, only on my lunch break

). I started seeing shockwave crashes at work today, and the site has been very slow to load on my home computer for the past two days. More updates or changes going on that would affect it, perhaps? But there is a LOT of video advertising as well.
