I've been caught in storms a couple of times and it isn't fun; an electrical storm when there's no shelter nearby is dangerous. I look at the weather radar on my phone or tablet before going. I will also check the radar on my phone during the ride. If there is a possibility of threatening weather, I'll try to have escape routes to shortcut back to home or my car (I tend to drive to most of my rides as the roads leading out from where I live are in terrible shape and dangerous).
Friday my wife and I did an 88 km circuit. We knew t-storms were called for by the end of the day and I could see the advancing front on my phone, but we went anyway. We had to drive about 25 km to the start of the ride, and on the way back from the ride we stopped to pick up some take-out BBQ chicken for supper. Just as we were leaving the take-out place it started to rain and by the time we sat down to eat it was a downpour, so I guess we timed it right!
I'm a sissy when it comes to bad weather. I'm retired now so if the weather's crappy, I know I just have to wait a day or two for better riding weather.
