5'4" - Custom Fitting a bike from FUBAR
Oh right, so I see what the problem is, it's just the frame that fits.
I did a triathlon back in 2008 and was quick to make a bike purchase. I didn't consider anything but the frame size and material and picked up a brand new 2007 Jamis Eclipse from a wholesaler on Ebay. I've only had a mountain bike and never ridden a street bike and it rode amazingly well for practices and tri's. Well that's all great when you're done swimming and then jump on a bike and then run all with adrenaline so I didn't really notice anything.
Fast forward to July 2016. I've decided to ride a little more often and I'm kinda hooked.
A little about me:
Personal Attributes: 5'4", 123 - 130 pounds, 28" inseam. Slim, long build for the height. I'm of decent fitness, slightly above average and bike around 60 - 100 miles a week.
Road Type: New York City streets. Typically the Bronx and Manhattan for now. Rough, potholes, cobblestone, cheese grater grade asphalt.
Bike Description:
Year, Brand, Model: 2007 Jamis Eclipse
Frame Material: 853 Reynolds Cromo and Carbon Fiber, TIG-Welded/Bonded
Fork: Easton EC70
Brakeset: Campagnolo Centaur
Shift Levers: Campagnolo Centaur
Front Dérailleur: Campagnolo Centaur
Rear Derailleur: Campagnolo Centaur
Crankset: 175mm Shimano 105 (?/53)
Bottom Bracket: FSA MegaEXO (I think, it was changed from original setup)
Rear Cogs: Shimano 105 (?)
Chain: Shimano CN6600
Saddle: Fizik Pave (Switched to ISM PN2.1- July 4th, 2016)
Seat post:Ritchey Pro Road (Possibly? - the graphics have faded - it's setback)
Handlebar: Easton EC70
Handlebar Stem:Ritchey Pro Road (70mm 18 degrees rise, maybe more)
Headset: FSA Orbit
Wheel set: Shimano WH-R500
Tires: Hutchinson Quartz
So right off the bat you'll notice a few major issues:
1. 175mm and I'm 5'4"
2. Campagnolo components mixed with Shimano components and the results are what you'd expect: delayed shifts, missed shifts, chain-rub, although it still works and all 20 gears are caught with chain-rub on the extreme ends.
3. Just the fork, frame, headset and stem where stock, everything else was something thrown on the bike to sell. Nothing stock.
I love the frame but using it to commute lets me realize all my faults and faults with the bike's fit. I've had people remark how the frame should be anywhere from a 47cm to a 53cm. I think the frame fits fine but we'll find out in time.
FIRST MODIFICATION - SADDLE: From 2007 Fizik Pave to 2016 ISM PN 2.1
Original 2007 Fizik Pave (ridden for 100 miles): The Fizik Pave may work for some but not me. The pain on my perineum was incredible regardless of position and my sit bones hurt as well even though my weight was being distributed everywhere apparently. Not much to say, I have a LiveWire Velo from 1999 on my Mountainbike and don't experience this so it had to go. I know it's not broken it, but I don't want it to break me first.
Modification Review: Bought the PN 2.1 from a local bike shop for near MSRP which will never happen again. I believe in small businesses but I also believe in paying anywhere for most anything when it's authentic and nearly 40% off (that's my baseline). It's expensive but literally zero perineum pain. My sit bones are 130cm so at 110cm it may be a tad small but I'll break it in and see but otherwise it works really well.
NEXT MODIFICATION: CRANKS!!!
