We're nearing our annual trip to the Outer Banks. I've searched the forum and have seen the discussions around cycling in and around Nags Head.

We stay on Hatteras Island (in Salvo). How is the ride from Salvo down towards Avon and Hatteras? Too much traffic? Not enough shoulder? Worth bringing a road bike?
