I ride about 12 miles round on the weekend. I did my first 43 miles round last week. I didnt get any cramp, just out of juice. I had to struggle to get back. I only ride on pave trail.
I have a Trek 7.4 FX and I now know the story of center of gravity. You dont get much kick out of a fitness/hybrid bike vs a road bike that put in the get go position.
I also have to worry about my very very minor back pain which is why I didnt get a road bike in the first place.
