I think anything that takes a rider out of competing even for a few seconds is news. Seeing them ride without event other than nature breaks for 5 hours is not news.
Of course winning the TdF is barely news unless you follow cycling. It depends why you watch.
I always like seeing how they deal with rule breaking, trains and that kind of stuff. Most the pedaling gets boring.
