How many of you have teenagers? My 16 year old son is generally responsible, friendly, volunteers at the food pantry, works really hard at school and gets OK grades. All great. But there is this thing where he seems to have literally no ability to think things through even a tiny bit before acting. Run the blender with the top off. Dump a half gallon of milk on the floor and try to mop it up one paper towel at a time, for an hour. Etc etc. I have said "just take a moment and think about it first" like a million times.

For most people there is a sort of constant assess, analyze, decide, act loop. Even my 12 year olds do this. Dogs do this every time they walk around a fence instead of trying to climb over it. But my 16 year old just stopped doing the first three steps sometime in the past year. This is standard teenage behavior, right? Right?
