Maybe for those that only have one set of wheels. But if they are like Rohloff 500-14 at 1300 bucks a pop just for the hub I would have to put a cot in the shed. Doesn't the hub weigh about 3 or 4 pounds?

I believe the 1x system is really an attempt to avoid chain drop on Single track but maybe not. But I agree SS/FG has its advantages.
