If it uses a derailleur hanger, your'e in luck. Just get the longest type possible.

I had another bike with the beastly heavy steel VGT supported by an added hanger. That one had big range but so crazy heavy I removed it. Gave it away recently but what was I thinking Those VGT's are made for abuse. All time best heavy duty vintage derailleur.
