Good distinction! I've bought a couple of bikes from the mid-70's recently that were in just awful condition, mostly dirt and rust, but when I cleaned them up things like unworn, free-spinning derailleur pulleys convinced me that they had hardly been ridden at all. Now that's bike abuse.
