usually not a problem using newer cranks on older bikes
The normal problem is the other way - older cranks prided themselves on low-Q, and you can run into chainline and chainstay clearance issues with wider rear axles on newer bikes

Backing up on this - something else to think about is the position of the taper in the Q of the crank - newer cranks tend to be shallower and older cranks tend to be deeper.
e.g - older triples needed a spindle over 120mm, and newer triples will run with 110mm spindle.
Good idea to used a matching bottom bracket and crankset pair whether new or old.
