In my first ride after 40 years of not riding... I went as far as I could away from the house and had to stop for a water and rest break, then I rode home... I did that for awhile and began to notice that I no longer felt like i was going to collapse when I got off the bike at home... I eventually got a computer on the bike.. I found out that the first day I went 3'1/2 miles and had to stop... I stayed at the total 7 miles for awhile but got a bit faster and less wore out... then it went to 10 miles, then 20... at first i was averaging around 7 miles per hour... then 15... I can go faster than that now, but most of the time I am riding with my wife and she is comfortable in the 14 to 15 mph range..
I believe you also have what I consider the right idea, keep it fun...
I don't think I saw this post before Obed, but yes, I want to have fun, and the exercise for good health is a side-benefit After I can go a few miles, stay out there awhile, I'll ask one of my gal-friends if they want to go. I kind of hope to meet some folks out there riding that will want company because I don't think my friends are into it like I am. Well, I know they aren't

I just figure out my miles using mapquest right now, but I do have a Polar FT4 I can wear to know how many calories I burn, and the watch to tell me how long. I'm not all that concerned with that. Distance is most important since I so want to do some long rides on the road if I get good enough Also, camping along the Pacific Coast I think would be awesome!!

When I go camping in my truck, with my tent, I sleep on an airbed. So of course I was thinking "how am I going to campout if I have no cushion to speak of" Then I saw these cool hammocks, and that's what I'm going to have!!
