Since you plan to keep the bike for a long time, I recommend buying the one with the frame you like the best. You can change/upgrade the drivetrain components, wheels and points of contact in the future if you desire.

Regarding "buying used", it's true that it can take more effort---but I wouldn't call it a "headache" because it offers a way to buy a higher quality bike without spending more. That's how I upgraded all the bikes in my family to full composite carbon frames and forks. I would have paid US$2,500 to $3,000 each for the bikes if I had purchased them new. Instead, I paid well under $1,000 for each and was able to upgrade the wheels right away.

It takes research and patience to buy used but it can be well worth it---it took me over 6 months to find a Specialized Ruby Elite for my wife in the XS size that she requires and she is extremely happy.
