Its funny how I set off troll indicators, even on sites of various disciplines having nothing to do with bicycles. People seem to think something is up.....until I finish a build.

But I prefer steel so I'm getting steel. And I have discovered that there is a component available which is called a "Leather Faced Brake Pad" that is supposed to mitigate wet conditions as far as steel wheels are concerned.

I did read your replies and as a newbie was disappointed to hear that the metal of preference may not be safe. I did research though and it does appear that, again, a special brake shoe is made specifically for steel wheels.

Apparently over in the UK these brakes can be found in abundance. Why they are hard to find here I don't know.

Anyway, like I said, I want to make a unorthodox, but very functional exercise, hill and, really, all around bike. So it will be unconventional in build and appearance.

Below are photos of these special Leather Face brakes.

When I did the research it was noted that a major mistake being committed was people with steel wheels using alloy or aluminum oriented brakes. This was the cause of the crashes.

And it works vice versa as these Leather brakes cannot be used on alloy wheels or they will severely damage them.

But I appreciate you guys input, though,...... it has really helped. This is why I am asking these questions. I would not have found this out had I not asked and then did some research. So I am glad to know that I can make the bike how I want it....safely.

The Bianchi arrived in the mail today. As soon as I get the chance I will inspect it and post some photos. And I will be asking more questions . Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
