My wife and I rode into a small town in Portugal, and started looking for a place to stay for the evening. We saw the ice cream sign, and thought we'd fuel up before looking. Even though we did not speak Portuguese we asked the proprietor about room, "casa de comida", availability, and he indicated that he had a room above the store. My wife is Portuguese and has heard the language around her grandmother. She also knows Spanish which is similar, which helped. We were a little apprehensive from looking at the exterior of the building, but it was getting late, and we are not fussy.

Boy, were we surprised when we stepped into an immaculate, spacious, beautifully furnished apartment. After riding through Portugal, I came to this conclusion: if Portuguese kitchens are half as clean as their bathrooms I'd never have a problem with the food!
