Well they claim it is Hi Mod, 3K Carbon. Nashbar and Performance are owned by the same company. I'd bet they are made by Fuji or at least made in the same factory.
I like the cyclocross frame idea for maximum flexibility...I can put skinny tires on it for good roads (Pikes was really nice surfacing considering the weather it is subjected to) or something fatter but still slick for the likes of Mt. Evans which though still paved, is like the surface of the moon, cracked, potholed, swales, occasional gravel. Or I can put real cyclocross tires on it for true gravel conditions like my training ride at home. I should check to see if there is a warranty. Regardless, I'm not terribly worried about a cracking a Cyclocross frame for road riding. I have a Scatante (Performance brand) Carbon road bike for a decade+ with thousands of miles on rough roads and never had an issue with the frame. When you ride uphill for thousands of feet of climbing, weight matters!
I have a Cannondale Scalpel 29'er (Carbon)for MTBing and I beat the heck out of it. No problems. I love it, but it's never going to climb the way a no suspension, skinny tire bike will on the paved mountains and passes I ride here in CO.
