When I was in college and interned on Wall Street, I had to wear a suit everyday. So I had a lot of suits in college. Only one was really nice though. But then I went to grad school and became a journalist instead, so I never needed to wear my suits. After I got married and started biking and working out, I lost a lot of weight. But I didn't really think about how it affected my suits until I went to a friend's wedding. I looked like a little kid wearing his dad's clothes. The suit was so big on me.

So, I went to the store and bought a new, smaller suit for wearing to weddings and stuff.

A couple years later, when I was moving here, I was taking a job at a business paper. The boss said he expected everyone in slacks and coats every day. So I went to the store to buy a couple pairs of nice dress pants and sports coats. The guy convinced me I was better off buying some cheap suits instead. So I bought a few more cheap suits. Started the new job to find out that the boss was full of ****. We wore khakis and button ups. Since I had the suits, I wore them whenever I could, which wasn't often. I left that job after 2.5 years.

A few years after that, I went to a conference for work that required everyone to wear suits and ties. Worst conference ever. Anyway, I once again found myself feeling like a little kid wearing his dad's suit. I'd continued losing weight and the smaller suits I'd bought were now too big. (Fortunately, it was a conference full of traffic engineers who hated wearing suits as much as I did, and most of them hadn't bought a new suit in 30 years, so I fit in OK.)

I again bought another, even smaller suit.

So, now I have one suit that fits really well, one suit I can get away with if I have to but is still a bit big, four suits that are just too big and a tuxedo that is way too big. (I bought my tux when I got married because I figured I'd need it again some time. I've worn it twice.)

What's funny is, in high school, I had a sports coat, size 38. It didn't take long in college to grow into a size 42. Then I dropped back to a 40, and now I'm back down to a 38.
