There's no normal anymore. BBs used to pretty consistently last much longer, but that's no longer the case, and BB life much shorter than average is much more common.
It's part of the price we pay for emphasizing weight and moving from proven durable designs.
After having tried a lot of new stuff, I'm back to 3x7 drivetrain, with a square tapper cartridge BB. The thing I appreciate the most is minimal maintenance required, durability, reliability, robustness. The thing I miss? Lower weight, only.
