I've got about 3 years on the Shimano cartidge bearings and have removed them once to relube the outer threads on the cartidge on the advice of the mechanic that helps me with these issues. I've got a similar clicking noise and figure I'll just replace it one day when it gets worse, the $30 isn't that bad.
