When a newbie asks me about light touring bikes I tell them (1) Trek 520, (2) Novarra Randonee, (3) Windsor Tourist (bikesdirect.com).
Sensible choices, but are they really for
light touring? I have a Windsor that I used and found suitable for medium to heavy touring. Since I got into lighter touring the Windsor has been hanging in the garage.
