Crank arm length and bike fit and pedal profile
I got a new bike that is now my nicest bike. I got it used and it isn't custom fitted for me. It is larger than I would like but not so big to cause problems. What I'm doing is adapting the bike to fit me as best as possible. It has 175 crank arms on it, I had never ridden longer than 170 cranks before I got this bike. Either due to the familiarity of riding 170 cranks for 40 years, or 170 being ideal, I'm not comfortable with the 175's on this bike.
An added benefit to changing to 170s, which I already have, is this will allow a slight raising of the seat post, getting me a little more clearance from the top tube which my thighs tag intermittently. I'm also considering going to a more high profile pedal system than the Speedplay Frogs I'm using for now. I assume the normal Shimano road pedal system is higher profile than either Speedplay Zero or Frogs and requires a slight seat raising.
What other pedal systems are high profile? I know I can raise the profile of Speedplay Zero with shims under the cleats. I think the shims are usually to adjust cant or leg length differences, but would seem to work well to raise the profile to give a few MM adjustment on a slightly too large frame.
