So how are the shifting into the harder gears done? "but not down to harder gear. I have to overshift in order for the bike to shift." Shift two cogs up then down shift one back? Most indexed systems only allow over lever travel (and the resulting der movement) when shifting to easier/lower cogs. Or do you have some sort of rapid rise mongrel.


How did the mechanic determine that the hanger was not bent? Does he know that hanger alignment is not the sole determinate to der alignment?


Chain length most certainly can effect shifting grade. If the rear der has a cage with it's pivot off set from the guide pulley's pivot then as the cage plays out with chain wrap needs the gap between the guide pulley and the cog set's underside will change. How the chain length is set WRT this gap is a factor.
