If you're travelling more than walking distance from home, you need to have the basic ability to either repair simple things for call someone you know to be reliable for help. I learned that lesson the hard way when out in the middle of nowhere and my hub cones somehow snagged on something and got too tight to move. Still not sure how it happened, and I had gotten cocky because I hadn't had any problems in a long time, so I didn't have my cell phone. I did have the $20 that's always in my bag, so I walked a mile or 2 to a pub that was open, ordered some lunch and asked if they'd let me use their phone. Not ideal and it would have been better if I'd just had my own cell phone with me, but no one carries cone wrenches as that's a freak thing to have happen. Life goes on.
