I am confused ... you speak of "diving in" to 50-75-miles rides ... and later say this was your first ride over ten miles?
Where do you carry four bottles? How much did you pay for four bottles? A tube and a set of tire levers are cheaper than two bottles. Add in the cost of some snacks, and there's your mini-pump (I have gotten a couple good ones for $10-$12 through careful shopping.)
If this was a rural road, how many cyclist pass in what span of time?
In any case ... if you want to be prejudiced because two guys who were riding seriously passed you without even noticing you, and one person going slowly helped ... it's your life. Screw yourself however you like.
I'd like to see you completely drop the "Oh, poor me" and "I try so hard and I am so brave but <sniff> nobody loves me" bit.
You made a dumb move (heading out unprepared) and paid for it. I think this is a good thing----it is experiences like this which don't really hurt you, but can (if you can stop blaming others) teach you lessons which could keep you out of real trouble later on in life.
Plenty of us have done much dumber things while learning. Don't miss the lesson trying not to feel like you did something dumb.
I am glad you are out enjoying cycling. You will enjoy it more when you learn to do it better.
Funny, though ... I have never had a cyclist pass me without asking if I needed help. I have people call out from passing cars, asking if I needed help---and I am big, ugly, scary-looking guy.
But then, I have never needed help, because I carry patches, spare tube, mini-pump, and mini-tool with chain tool ... and know how to take care of my bike.
