Yesterday I was at Cades Cove, a one-way 11-mile motor loop in GSMNP. Saturday mornings it's closed to autos and there's a lot of recreational cyclists. I didn't take my bicycle on account of my medical restrictions.

I saw an ambulance and park ranger car driving upstream from the end. A bit later they emerged with lights blazing. I was told they had a bicycle rider who had crashed, not wearing a helmet.

Maybe I should start a helmet discussion thread?
