Those racks just suck in general. They're for children's bikes. It's nearly impossible to attach an adult bike to them in a way that's non-destructive to your paint.
I totally agree. I would treat that rack more as a fence, as the bikes shown there are, rather than a wheel bending, paint scratching piece of junk.
