Oh ... so You're the problem ....

I'd like to hear more about local cycling organizations, and why the proposal was made (I mean, the local government funded a study) and I'd like to know who defended the study .... my first argument would have been "With the same number of cyclists competing for the same real estate with cars, obviously there are either unsafe situations or there is still congestion. Possibly a longer study would be needed to give locals time to adapt and change their driving habits, to learn how to maintain that breath-taking, death-defying speed of 25 mph ... on a road with No cyclists, instead of on a road With cyclists."

On another hand, if I lived there I would likely either just ride that road or find an alternate route.

back in the day when we had to swim across the river twice and climb both sides of the same hill to get to school ... there were no bike lanes ... and yet, there were cyclists.

Bike lanes are great and all ... but I am leaning lately to a campaign of television- and radio-broadcast "Bikes have the right to be there---share the road" campaign. Drivers don't respect most road signs, and we hear endless stories of them using bike lanes as turn lanes .... but starting to condition drivers to the fact that bikes have the legal right to be there .... add to that a couple weekends of strict enforcement, which hopefully would pay for itself in terms of ticket revenue ....

I would rather ride among aware, awake, sensible drivers on a road without bike lanes than on a any road with idiots who truly believe the law allows them to squeeze bikes off the shoulder while the drivers make illegal passing maneuvers. I'd like to start pro-bike education in grammar school ... except of course that many grammar schools in this nation have neither the teacher talent nor the resources to even teach children to read. That kind of sucks.
