I used different racks for touring than I use for around home. And use different tires. And on a few tours I used different chainrings than I use around home.
But I always want to ride at least 50 to 100 miles after my changes before I take the bike on a tour in case I did something in my changes that I should not have done. The pre-tour ride is where I figure out if everything is working out ok or not.
