Mostly, however, from folks doing trail riding and not the paved or otherwise smooth paths we would be riding. Those rims seem to be the standard on anything in my price range with 36 spokes. Seems like they go with double-walled only if it's a 32 spoke wheel.

The Specialized Roll Sport is also intriguing. 36 rear and 32 front on double-walled rims. I like the fact that they don't skimp on double-walled with a 36 wheel, as it seems Trek is doing. Disc brakes are a nice touch, and the solid fork instead of suspension is a plus. A nice bang for the buck as far as I can see. Any thoughts on that one?

Looking through Giant's website, I'm not seeing anything that has 36 spokes and double walls. The only bike I even recall seeing with 36 spokes is the Sedona, but it has what I assume are single wall wheels called "Giant Alloy".
No. The 820 is a tank, and not in a good way. It isn't even really a mountain bike but rather a mountain style bike. And I believe it this bike comes with a freewheel rather than a freehub, so not so good.

See my earlier post regarding upgrading the back wheel.
