Nishiki Continental mid 70's?

Hi I am new to the site today and ended up here after trying to ID a Nishiki Continental I bought today in Ontario, Canada. Serial # is CFOS 818. I have taken some photos of the components right down to the Michelins. This bike is clearly one that was above average quality for the time. When I spotted it I was thinking of a fixie for my son, however looking more closely it appears to be a calibre far above something I would strip for that purpose. Any help would be appreciated. It is a 21" frame labelled Nishiki Japan, Norco Design. Its a 12 spd, with Suntour 9000 derailleurs, Shimano 600 arm / Biopace Crank, Diacompe brakes, etc. and appears to have been well maintained, however the paint is blistering in a couple of spots and the front decal is gone. Any thoughts would be welcome. I don't want my son stripping something of value for a fixie. Thanks in advance for your help.
