Venture Beach is not a place you want to be after dark. It's a cesspool of homeless drug-addicts, occasional gang members and the like. I'd suggest staying up in Santa Barbara, and then riding down to Ventura Beach in time to make it there well before sundown, and then heading back out before nightfall. If you do stay there after dark, stick to the more populated and well lit restaurant areas and venture out no further.
