This seems to be a fairly common scam. I've had nearly the same initial contact on numerous occasions. Buyer out of town, sending a certified check, friend will pick up item, etc. On any out of town purchase, I always state that funds must clear the bank plus a week cooling off period before I will ship the item. Otherwise, it's cash and in person only.
