What I am not 100% sure about is the whole Workouts feature works exactly. I created the a Workout to fulfill this from my coach:

Start with a 10 minute warmup.
Then settle into a nice STEADY LOW Tempo 120-130 bpm at 78+ rpm.
During the ride, work in 4 X 10's at 150-155 bpm at 80+ rpm.
Allow a MINIMUM of 20 minutes back at LOW Tempo 120-128 bpm between each effort.

So I created this in Garmin Connect:

  1. Is this how you would set it up?
  2. Is it possible to export a Workout?
  3. The most important question: Once I start a workout, since I made everything time based, will it automatically advance to the next step or do I have to press the Lap button to make it advance? I am hoping I have to press Lap.
It will automatically advance to the next step.

Pro tip: Add a step between your warm up and the first interval to bike until lap button press. This will help you avoid an interval starting right at a stop sign, sharp turn, or anything else you'd prefer to avoid. You might add a similar step at the end of your workout so the Garmin doesn't stop recording while you still have several miles ride home.
