My last tire (both Panaracer Pasela PTs, a model I've used before) failed after 14 months (short), cracking and bulging, the tread not all worn away. I can't imagine what else could have caused this. The front, the same model, is in better shape.

I ride the bicycle immediately after applying the MS and don't put the tire in the little bit that makes it to the pavement. (I keep the MS in the bed of my pickup, in the driveway)
I'd think the the excess, and there would be a lot, would get flung off the cogs and onto every thing else. Which is why i tell folks to never lube a chain while it is spinning. Most of what you put on gets flung off, onto the frame, tires, rims, spouse, pets, floor, etc.

It you want to clean between your cogs, use some string or twine like dental floss.
