Also if someone rear ends you they can claim your bike rack caused excessive damage that the 5 mph bumper would of prevented. A friend rolled into a car waiting at a red light and the hitch ball when through the bumper cap. His insurance company argued that if the receiver was removed it would of been bumper to bumper with minimal damage. The insurance company won they split it 50/50 instead of 100% his fault.
Unless you need to carry more than one bike, why not carry it inside? I do.
