I was building rear wheels with pulling elbows out long before JB's book had is followers reverse direction.

But in all fairness to JB who' no longer around to defend himself, he never based his preference on strength or durability.

In any case, long before Mavic conducted their tests, and Shimano apparently agreed, I was noting that over 2/3rds of the broken spokes I saw were elbow in, which is why I stayed with my preference.

FWIW - in this tread I was referencing a disc rear wheel, which is subjected in torque in both directions, so its much more of a toss up. So far I've not built a disc rear, so I haven't had to decide yet.
