I found this bike at a local bike shop. It is brand new, never sold... but it's a 2012 model.
Scott CR-1 Elite. It has SRAM Rival components.
I test drove it at the shop and really liked how it felt. it felt solid and so smooth. very light too. I'm on a major budget / trying to get the best deal I can. I considred used bikes off CL, but I was warned to try and avoid used CF bikes as they can have problems/cracks that I (as a newby) would miss.
The seller initially asked for $1300 out the door. I have since found some ebay sellers selling 2016 models / closeouts, of this same bike in my size but the newer version. a Scott CR1 20 with 105s for $1450. for an extra 150 i'd get the new bike, not a 2012. so I suspect when I discuss $$ with the seller, and show him what I can get a 2016 for - he may quickly drop the price of this bike - but I don't now how log I really should push.
I was thinking like maybe $800-1000 max.
is there any reason not to buy a 2012 model - it's essentialy a new bike but an older model. I hae been riding my Scott hybrid bike for the past 5 years - so any road bike will probably be a big upgrade and feel "fast" to me...but I still want to get a good deal and not be scammed.
the shop is an authorized Scott retailer. anything I should ask to verify I would still get a warranty - or since the frame is such an old model - would Scott likely NOT warranty it as it is older...and i'm SOL if it breaks or is defective?
thanks.
