Yes. I've seen several threads this week where someone was lucky enough to find a 40 pound Schwinn that could easily be "tuned up" to provide another thirty years of riding....and I keep waiting for Sydney to remind us that old Schwinn's are just "gas pipe".

I don't think I'll ever look at a Varsity or a Continental again without remembering they are "just gas pipe".
