I enjoyed reading this, thanks for posting it.
#4 doesn't really apply here in my neck of the woods. The only tiny little town like they're describing that we have, is one that can't be reached by roads. You can hike there but you can't MTB in because the trails go through Wilderness where bikes are illegal. This spring I rode through the remains of a ghost town on my way to some gravel, but the town was paved, I just never rode there before because it was near the end of the pavement and I couldn't make a loop on my skinny tire bike. Bummer because I'd have a lot of fun if this was an option here.
Also #5. I still enjoy pavement, especially when it's fresh and smooth. But I can relate.
Completely relate to #29. That was true even when I was limited to the pavement. It's still true now, just works better.
