Today was my first bike commute in about two weeks due to vacation last week and having to work out of my office (with a car) the week before that. Unfortunately, I missed riding in the nicest weather we've had all year, but the weather also made for a great vacation.

The missed commutes means that it will be a struggle to reach 40,000 miles bike commuting by the time that I retire in early 2017. Earlier this year, I thought that I would easily top the 40K mark by this fall, based on my usual commuting patterns. However, a combination of terrible weather and work commitments have thrown a wrench into that plan.

The good news is that I plan to retire at the end of January after working for 40+ years and bike commuting the past 10 years. My cycling mileage will probably decline after I retire and no longer bike commute, but I will still do plenty of riding for recreation and travel.
