I'm pretty sure the shoulder is FINE for a bicycle if it is OK for 8 cars and 5 semis to pass on the Right. Right track my eye. pffft I also agree that few, but those 3 trouble makers, ever rides in the middle of the highway lane, so NATURALLY it seldom makes the news. I've never seen anybody ride not on the shoulder for no reason. My last highway ride I was getting mobbed by mosquitos. So I started crossing the rumble strip to get away from the grass every break in the traffic, which was strangely light. Also that day there were hundreds of screws form a saboteur it seemed. The faster I go the better for crossing the rumble I find. Dangerous ??? Not much, if any. I had whole days on my VN/CH tour with mud slime shoulders. SMP tires bested that too.
