Really? I ride the Hudson River Greenway regularly. Like so much in the big city, it's super busy, and because of that, I don't expect any strangers to say hello. Mostly, it's a function of population density. When I'm in a place where I would see a person only once an hour, I expect we will say hello. Maybe I should try saying Hi on the Greenway. There are two people I see regularly, and I wonder if they notice me, too. There's another one I see occasionally who seems really cool, so I'll wave at him, too. The trouble is, the closing time is so quick, there isn't much time to react.
Yeah 2 people approaching each other at 15mph is going to happen fast. I just low fived random strangers so I had no worries about time frame. Try the low five thing, it's fun! When I get a low five I just shout out something like 'Bikes!' or 'Beautiful day!' or something corny like that.
