I don't think its really a problem. The OP should flush the hub thoroughly (ATF ought to be fine) to flush out any rust/debris. Then let it drain thoroughly. Blowing compressed air through the hub can expedite this. Then lubricate with a proper oil (20 weight non-detergent motor oil is ideal). A 1979 AW hub was designed to be oil lubricated anyway, so loss of grease shouldn't be an issue.
