The funny thing is I see home made choppers pretty often on CL, so clearly a fair amount of them get made.
I suspect many builders think they look really cool, then build it and learn how hard to ride they really are.
As a friend who worked on the X-29 project said, there are some things you just have to do to learn they're not a good idea.
